Shearer's Foods Recognizes Associates of the Year, Service Anniversaries and Perfect Attendance Honorees at Their Annual Dinner

Brewster, Ohio: Shearer's Foods honored Jimmie Walker, Third Shift Packaging Supervisor, as the Jack and Rosemary Shearer 2011 Associate of the Year at their Twelfth Annual Associate Appreciation Dinner on April 29, 2012. The Award is given to one worthy associate company wide, who exemplifies exceptional leadership and character. Mr. Walker inspires his production team to strive for Shearer Perfection every day at the Millennium plant in Massillon, Ohio. With this honor goes a trophy and prize of $2,500.00. The 2011 Department Associates of the Year were also honored: Joseph Daverio, Processing; Pat Evans, Machine Operation; Jim Johnson, Maintenance; Andrea Keim, Quality Assurance; Donna Lamb, Packaging; Dan Maley, Cleveland Branch; George Maxin, Warehouse; Mike Meyer, Columbus Branch; Shannon Miller, Management; Julian Sacco, Sanitation; Chris Sample, Administration; Jeff Stutzman, Massillon Branch; John Tomalski, Pittsburgh Branch; and Craig Whetstone, Youngstown Branch.


Larry Thornton, Packaging Department, won the 2011 Shearer's Community Service Award for his work with Habitat for Humanity of Summit County. This Award is given annually to an associate, who donates their own personal time to help the local, regional, national or international community. Habitat for Humanity of Summit County is building The Valor Home, a center for homeless veterans, to provide them with housing, job training and counseling. The Home is currently under construction, and Larry, an excellent carpenter, will be working on the project until it is complete. A $1,000 prize will be donated in the associate's name to the Home.

Associates celebrating service anniversaries and perfect attendance were also honored at Shearer's Associate Appreciation Dinner. Dan Bales, Regional Accounts Manager, Kitty Blend, Outlet Store Manager, and Debby Wilt, Outlet Store Clerk, were honored for Thirty Years of Service. Jerry Clutter and Al Cunningham, Massillon Route Salesmen, were recognized for Twenty Years of Service. George Maxin was honored as a Twenty Year associate. Fifteen Year associates were Chris Hammond, Technical Services Director, and Skip Skelley, Branch Operations Manager. Twenty-eight associates celebrated Ten Years of Service, and thirty-nine associates celebrated Five Years of Service. 

Kirsten Swan, Purchasing Agent, and Jeff Stutzman, Massillon Route Sales, each won a Perfect Attendance Caribbean Cruise for two plus a week of paid vacation. Eligible Shearer's associates achieved 55% perfect attendance in 2011. 

Overall, 379 awards were given to Shearer's associates from the Ohio and Pennsylvania operations at the awards dinner held at the St. George Cultural Center in Massillon.
