Guelph Maintenance Electrician - night shift

Shearers Snacks is a privately held producer and marketer of quality snack foods sold in the US and international markets under the following brands: Shearers, Rice Works, Granny Goose, Thin & Crispy as well as other private label brands.

Position Title: Electrician

Wage:  $35.46

Position Summary

Responsible for routine inspections of electrical equipment, troubleshooting equipment, repairing and maintaining all mechanical issues on or food-safe production equipment


  • Assist with troubleshooting and repairs of production equipment in a safe, food safe and timely manner

  • Completion of required preventative maintenance duties, work orders and equipment checks

  • Actively contribute to the preventative maintenance program by providing recommendations for improvement

  • Efficient production equipment set up, inspection and shutdown of all related equipment when required

  • Competently operate and monitor any mechanical/electrical controls on equipment

  • Ensure that all equipment maintenance and modifications are conducted to minimize cross contamination and ensure production quality and safety

  • Comply with all regulations relating to equipment and chemical approvals within food manufacturing facility

  • Take active role in dismantling and assembling equipment and machines for deep cleaning

  • Follow all company policies and procedures while working

  • Completing all other duties as assigned.

Experience, knowledge and skills

  • Licensed 309A or 442A Electrical license
  • Knowledge of conveyors, high speed pumps/compressor & packaging equipment
  • Experience with electrical safety circuit controls
  • Experience with PLC Programming, modification and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge with VFD’s, Servo controls and HMI
  • Experience with electrical safety circuit controls
  • Perform routine PM’s and equipment inspections

  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests as required

  • Troubleshoot PLC, relay ladder controls, level controls, capacitive and inductive sensors, photo electronics and AC/DC variable drives

  • Strong experience in maintaining, repairing, installing and overhauling equipment typically found in a food processing facility

  • Interpret and use appropriate sections of the current Ontario Electrical Safety Code

  • Consult manufacturers' manuals to determine test and maintenance procedures

  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, circuit diagrams and electrical code specifications to carry out assigned tasks

  • Perform periodic tasks and inspections of equipment and systems to observe operating conditions and determine what is needed for repair or adjustments

  • Execute preventative maintenance activities including trouble shooting and repairs to all equipment in a timely manner

  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for processing work orders, weekly schedules, preventative maintenance, labour hours and additional tasks as assigned

  • Participate in safety programs and ensure the application of our safety standards for all maintenance operations

  • Train and guide new employees to carryout tasks safely and based on mill procedures and practices

  • Work in a safe productive manner to maximize quality, efficiency and availability while minimizing maintenance cost and unscheduled downtime

  • Good understanding of 5S and other Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Must be comfortable working at various heights

  • Must have a full complement of personal/professional hand tools
  • Experience in Food Processing facility would be considered an asset
  • Sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Heavy lifting may be required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Provides maintenance support 24/7 schedule when necessary
  • Self-starter, working with minimal supervision
