It’s that time of year again! And this year we want you to be ready for the madness that is “back to school”.
So take your kids lunches beyond the usual sandwich routine and get everyone packed and ready to go on time with these great lunch hacks. (And, of course, don’t forget the chips!)
1. Use divided containers
Whether you’re packing, or you’ve helped your kids master packing, divided containers make portioning and food groups a cinch. Plus, you don’t have to worry about your child keeping track of multiple containers (we know not all of them make it home!).
2. Institute a Sunday prep day
Spend an hour on Sunday to prepare as much as possible for the week ahead. Get the kids to help portion out veggies, snacks and drinks. Make a bunch of PBJs and freeze them. Wash all containers so they’re ready to go. Whatever saves you time and limits chaos…just do it all ahead of time!
3. Up your snack game
Chips are always awesome and a kid favorite, but feel free to switch things up now and again. Popcorn, trail mix or even edamame can make for a novel change, and they’re all easy to pack.
4. Get dippin’
Kids love to dip stuff, and with healthy options like natural peanut butter or hummus, this type of lunch is easy to serve. Simply pack a container of their favorite dip along with fun sides (e.g. a combo of fruits, veggies, and chips, crackers or pita bread), ready to dunk!
5. Give new life to a Thermos
Thermos containers aren’t just for soup! Heat your child’s favorite foods (chicken nuggets, hot dogs, even pasta) in the morning and store in their trusty Thermos. It’ll keep foods warm and give them something to look forward to at lunch time.
