Our Commitment to Our Planet
Shearer’s Snacks commits to green business practices to help protect our planet. As a good steward of natural resources, we set an example of sustainability for the manufacturing industry.
Our state-of-the-art Millennium Manufacturing Facility opened in Massillon, Ohio, in 2010. It was the first food manufacturing plant in the world to achieve the highest sustainability award for environmental responsibility. The facility uses 30 percent less energy than industry best practices. We achieved this status with practices such as:
- Collecting 17,000 gallons of rainwater per month, decreasing water usage more than 60 percent
- Cooking with a new, patent pending oven that consumes 50 percent less energy
- Repurposing heat generated by cooking to provide 92 percent of the building’s heat
- Using natural lighting throughout the facility
Striving for excellence in the way we treat our planet, we are also targeting sustainability certifications at our other manufacturing facilities. We commit to sustainability through comprehensive Energy Management Programs at each location, with an annual goal of reducing utility consumption by 3 percent each year. The majority of our facilities have achieved our Zero Landfill goal by encouraging associates to reduce, reuse and recycle. We have recycled more than 66 million pounds of materials.
